Transform
Communication Design
Organised by the Centre for Law and Policy Research (CLPR), Transform is an annual conference on Transgender Rights and the Law. The two-day conference witnesses participation from a range of different actors including transgender rights activists, lawyers, students, intellectuals, and academics. The conference needed a visual that communicated the nuanced and non binary concept of gender identity. There were specific challenges that we faced while creating this visual:
- It had to be inclusive for all transgender communities and not just Indian communities.
- It had to communicate the idea of the gender spectrum rather than the “third gender”.
- We had to avoid gender stereotypes.
The illustration depicts Rodin’s The Thinker as gender ambiguous. Our version of The Thinker looks into a mirror contemplating their own identity. The visual was used across many collaterals like posters, standees, banners, brochures as well as invites. This project won a Kyoorius and Best Design Award.
